JOERG LEHMANN

As a third generation photographer Joerg Lehmann has been taking photos from an early age. He has worked as a professional photographer for many years, starting in California in 2002.  Joerg obtained certification from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and, after moving to Australia in 2011, gained accreditation with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). In the US Joerg worked with Special Kids Photography of America (SPKA) and was one of the early photographers to achieve their certification.

 

Since arriving in Australia Joerg has explored the more artistic side of photography. Joerg’s images are often dramatic and generally characterised by well controlled lighting. His passion is photographing people. Joerg is versatile and adaptive to the subject matter.  His range spans from advertising to fine art.   Joerg’s work has been published around the world. It has been shown as large as on a 30 m billboard.  Joerg has work in the Australian Parliament House.

He has had three solo shows and one joint exhibition with his two fellow studio photographers. In addition to his exhibition “Shadows and Darkness” at the Newcastle Theatre Company, Joerg’s photographs have been shown in galleries across Newcastle. His images are frequently published in the newspaper.

 

Throughout his journey in photography, Joerg has taught others. He has given classes, seminars and workshops on studio lighting and on general photography in various settings, including universities and guest lectures at TAFE. Professional Photographers of America awarded Joerg the degree of Photographic Craftsman for service as speaker, author and mentor. For teaching in Australia Joerg obtained TAE40110 and TAE 40116 in 2017. 

 

When not pursuing his passion as a photographer Joerg Lehmann is a Principal Medical Physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Calvary Mater Newcastle. He contributes to the treatment of cancer patients and pursues research in the areas of dosimetry, quality assurance, image guidance for radiotherapy treatments and data mining.

Joerg is accredited by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) and by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). He holds adjunct appointments as Associate Professor with the University of Sydney and RMIT University and a conjoint appointment as Associate Professor with the University of Newcastle.

 

Joerg gains great professional satisfaction from teaching the art of photography. He has taught across the entire range of experience, from school kids to professional photographers, as well as mentoring aspiring photographers.
